Conversations that unite.
Even in the same family, everybody has different needs. Family therapy is designed to help you find balance in your home so everyone feels valued, respected, and heard. We begin by seeing how everyone has a role in communication successes as well as the breakdowns, even the silent ones. This gives us traction to give each family member a responsibility that works to change the system for the better.
When one person in the family is the “problem,” it’s their sole responsibility to change and everyone else is relatively powerless. Family therapy changes this limiting viewpoint quickly and opens the door to finding positive change for everyone. Many hands make lighter work.
Is family life supposed to be this hard?
You’re worried about your family’s well-being. You’ve tried talking about it. Conflict, again. You stop listening to each other, resentments build, and arguments break out over relatively small things. You notice unhealthy patterns as they happen, but have trouble finding what to do better.
Family stress is unavoidable, but how we deal with it makes a big difference.
Every family member wants to feel understood, that they are important. But when everyone is fighting their own battle, it’s impossible to feel like you’re on the same team.
Therapy makes family life manageable.
It’s not just about avoiding conflict. Home should be a place where everyone feels at ease. When we feel disconnected, unseen, or worried to exhaustion, we miss out on that nourishing essence of having a family.
Therapy is a chance to create workable solutions for everyone’s benefit.
Imagine not having to walk on eggshells anymore. Imagine an adolescent listening to and respecting a limit. Imagine a home where, even when disagreements happen, everyone still feels like their voice is heard. That includes your voice too!
Family therapy, a sigh of relief
I’m Denis Barron, a licensed family therapist in San Francisco. I understand how hard it is to start the therapy journey, especially when you’re reaching out on behalf of an entire family.
I’m not here to ‘fix’ your family. I’m not even here to tell you there’s something wrong. My goal is to help you and your family identify the breakdowns in communication, the stubborn disagreements, the seemingly impossible challenges, and the contradicting needs that have made family life so stressful lately. I will let you know what I see and why it may be getting in the way of your goals. I’ll then offer real solutions to practice in the moment together.
When it works, it works for everyone, and everyone will know what to do outside of the therapy office as well.
Together we’ll figure out how to make sure you, your partner, your kids – and all of your loved ones – can feel at home within the family system.
Bring peace and joy back into your home.
